Dear Mr. Wiltgen, I have been doing research at your site at roots.lu concerning my ancesters from Septfontaines. I had done previous research using the Mormon films for this commune in Luxembourg. I have found your searchable database to be extremely valuable to me in researching my LUCIUS ancestors.I would like to present some of my research to you by way of the information at the end of this comment and then to ask you if you could answer some questions that I have. (1) What is the source for the data in your database? I assume that it is something different than the Mormon films for Septfontaines? (2) Based upon the attachment that I' ve included, I have the following questions: a. From the 1st section on Latin terms---> Do you think I have the correct translations for these terms abstracted from records[ the second part of my attachment gives the family # in your database for the source of those words] concerning my ancestors (LUCIUS, etc. ) b. If these translations are reasonably accurate, what do they mean or what do they tell me about my LUCIUS ancestors from the last part of the 1600's and the early part of the 1700's? Most of the terms come from records of a DOMINIC LUCIUS, his wife, brothers, nieces and nephews from Septfontaines. Would you agree with my assessment that Dominic and his family: i. lived in Septfontaines chateau or castle? ii. that Dominic was a high official in this village? iii. would "ex Castro" mean the same place as the Septfontaines chateau? c. The fact that Dominic LUCIUS was a godfather for 23 persons from this village would indicate a person of high status? [See the last part of the attachment.] (3) Could you give me your assessment as to whether Dominic LUCIUS was from a family of the nobility? I did find an early record that he was a teacher of some sort? (4) How would you explain the fact that he appears to have lived in the chateau and was "an officialis" for over 30 years? (5) I did a search in your database on occupation and put in "officialis" and found not only Dominic LUCIUS was an officialis, but also Michel and Jacques FELLER, and Jean Vamdermoot and Theodore Koob. What do you think this office was and why were there more than one of them? I am lead by another source to think Dominic LUCIUS was a record keeper in the castle in Septfontaines. I realize that I have presented you with a number of questions over some individuals from your database that you may not be familiar with. I hope that I have been accurate in my research. I don't know if my conclusions are warranted. Any help that you could give me would be most appreciated. P.S. Do you know of other sources of information on the Chateau in Septfontaines and the governing structure in the later part of the 1600's? I have also sent this to Richard Duprel who has done a lot of research on Septfontaines. He did not feel that he had any further information to offer me. I was hoping that you might or could tell me where to go for more help. I AM TRYING TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER, NICHOLAS NOSBAUM. HE WAS MARRIED IN ETTLEBRUCK LUXEMBOURG AND DIED THERE AROUND 1869 BEFORE MY GG GRANDMOTHER CAME TO AMERICA IN 1870 TO MARRY HIS BROTHER JOHN. MY GG GRANDMOTHERS NAME WAS CATHERINE OR CATHERINA PIRSCH. THEY WERE CATHOLIC, SO THERE MUST BE CHURCH RECORDS FOR DEATH, MARRIAGE AND BAPTISIMS. IF ANYONE CAN POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO LOCATED MY FAMILY HISTORY I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. THANKS, BARB BEIL
